This story is a part of the “My Favorite Class” series. With 100+ majors and countless areas of faculty expertise across campus, dip into one of these classes to fulfill your Rowan University course requirements.

Essentials of Strength Training (HES 00201) is one of the required classes for exercise science majors through the Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences. It focuses on joint movement, muscles and how to effectively interact with clients in a training setting.

This class alternates between a lecture setting and a lab setting. James Hall has a room filled with gym equipment, specifically for the exercise science students. Students are allowed to practice what they have learned while having access to immediate feedback from the professor. Inside of the lab, every session will start with a warmup, followed by the designated activities for that class. All lab work relates back to the information covered in the previous lectures.

Torri Coleman, a recent Rowan graduate, recommends this course for anyone interested in learning more about how the body works during exercise and workouts. Torri had a very positive experience in this class and is working on becoming a future physical therapist.
