(Weekly) Daily Dish – Microwave Hacks

Freshmen usually aren’t given a full kitchen in college (which I think is for the best), but that doesn’t mean they aren’t able to cook anything. Check out these microwave hacks I wish I had when relying on a microfridge to eat.

Eggs:

  1. 2 eggs
  2. 2 tbsp milk
  3. 2 tbsp shredded cheese
  4. Toppings of your choice

Directions:

  1. Spray mug with cooking spray, add eggs and milk, and whisk.
  2. Microwave for 45 sec, stir, microwave again until eggs are set.
  3. Throw in toppings (cheese, salt, pepper, herbs, tomatoes or spinach).
  4. Enjoy!

Mac & Cheese:

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup of water
  2. 1/2 cup of elbow macaroni
  3. 1/2 of cheese (your preference)

Directions:

  1. Pour macaroni and water into mug.
  2. Microwave on high for 8 min. (it helps to pause, and stir your macaroni at 4 min.),
  3. Add cheese into mug. Microwave again for 30-60 sec (until cheese is fully melted).
  4. Stir and enjoy!

French Toast:

Ingredients:

  1. 2 slices of bread
  2. 1 egg
  3. 1 tbsp butter
  4. 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamonClose up of cooked french toast in a white mug.
  5. 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Melt butter in mug (about 30 sec).
  2. Coat mug with melted butter.
  3. Whisk egg in separate mug or bowl, add cinnamon and vanilla extract, then stir.
  4. Tear bread into bite sizes and coat bread with egg mixture.
  5. Microwave for 30 sec at a time, until egg is cooked through (usually takes 90 sec).
  6. Add syrup if you like and enjoy!!
