Today we feature incoming transfer student Emilie Pretto (she/her) from Ocean County. Emilie tells us about her major, why she’s excited to start classes at Rowan, and gives advice to future transfer students.
Welcome to Rowan! Could you share with us one thing you are looking forward to at Rowan University?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people on campus and learning more in depth about my current major.
What is one hobby, activity, sport or club that you’re involved in that you’d like to continue at Rowan?
Because of COVID, there weren’t many club options at my community college. I look forward to discovering new interests and joining clubs here at Rowan.

Is there anything you’re hoping to discover about yourself at Rowan? Grow a new skill? Try a new interest?
I hope to make many unforgettable memories and particularly hope to integrate my life into the culture at Rowan. I want to experience as many things as Rowan has to offer.
Please share an interest, hobby or like that you have!
What I enjoy doing the most in my spare time is skateboarding, listening to music, and spending time with my pets.
What major are you pursuing and why?
I am pursuing secondary education in English because I have a passion for helping students grow and develop a love for reading, writing, and all other forms of art.
Do you have advice for other transfers who haven’t committed to a school yet?
Of course. Take your time and do what feels right to you. Whatever choice you make is the right one because you control your own path, and you can do that from wherever you decide to attend.
Where are you going to live this upcoming year?
On campus.
What is one thing about Rowan itself that you liked that encouraged you to enroll?
The atmosphere and the people. Whenever I visited Rowan, everyone was always so friendly and kind. It made me feel as though I was already home.
