When Going Away To College & Your Hometown Are The Same ZIP Code
Meet Lauren Kautz, a sophomore psychology major with a minor in Theatre. Lauren is from Glassboro, NJ, which is the town where Rowan University is located. In fact, Lauren’s home is five minutes from campus. This past year she lived on campus in one of the Nexus Apartment complexes. Lauren is involved in the national theatre honor society Alpha Psi Omega and Rowan Lab Theatre through the College of Performing Arts.
On “The College Experience“:
Even while going to college in a very familiar area, Lauren is able to get the full college experience by living on campus. She wanted to make friends, which she thought would’ve been more difficult if she lived at home. Lauren is getting a new experience of the town she has known her whole life.
Home Is Right Around The Corner:
Lauren gets the best of both worlds by living with her friends on campus, but having her family close by if needed. She has the ability to go home frequently because of how close she lives to Rowan. Lauren enjoys staying on campus during the week, especially with her classes, but enjoys having the flexibility to go home on the weekends when she is less busy.
Getting Involved:
Because Lauren lives on campus, she has gotten more involved around campus and all that it has to offer. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the Rowan Theatre Honors Society. She is also a part of Rowan Lab Theatre, an experience for students to explore all aspects of a theater production. Recently, Lauren just finished making her stage managing debut for the Rowan Lab Theatre Show “Exit The King,” directed by senior Juptej Singh.
“If I didn’t live on campus my experience here would be completely different. I wouldn’t have met some of my closest friends and I probably wouldn’t have gotten involved.”
