Between school itself, homework and extracurricular activities and jobs we know it might be difficult for you to visit Rowan when you’d like to. With our “Coffee with a Counselor” dates, let Rowan come to you if you can’t make it to us.
Allison Wedell, assistant director of admissions, shares her insight about our new “Coffee with a Counselor” meetings, which make our admissions counselors even more accessible to students interested in Rowan University.
She’s our admissions counselor for Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset counties in northern New Jersey. Allison sets up shop for a few hours at local coffee joints, such as Panera or Starbucks, to answer questions about Rowan and the admissions process. She reaches out to area guidance counselors and students ahead of time, letting them know that she is available to meet with students or parents (or both) during 15 minute appointments.
Allison explains, “I think that many students and parents have a very stressful impression of what the college admissions process is. I don’t subscribe to the idea that college counselors or the admissions process should be scary or intimidating. The more information that we can provide to students and their families from the start empowers them to make smart choices about their educational future. Our coffee event is a great and relaxed way to connect with admissions representatives.”
Allison guides students and their parents through their first questions about Rowan University. During this one-on-one session, she can take a look at your situation – academically, financially and more – and make suggestions as you begin the college application process. Whether it’s questions about paperwork, admissions or student life on campus, Allison can help you through the process of hopefully becoming a Rowan Prof.
Of course, Allison will continue to be available to you and your family once your cups of joe are long finished. She is available here on campus, over email or on the phone. She will continue to support you during your application process.
To learn more about when Allison will be back in your neck of the woods, please see your school counselor.
