Lover of the arts? It’s the time of year again to take the 20 minute drive to Philly to binge watch some of the most unique and captivating theatrical experiences around. During the month of September, hundreds and hundreds of performances will be put on throughout Philadelphia, bringing thrilling and never-before-seen shows to students like you. The Philly Fringe is home for contemporary performance as they present progressive, world-class art that expands the imagination and defies expectations. Interested yet?
Some of our very own Rowan students have original work in the festival this year too. You may have seen Death by Chocolate, It’s Happening at Home or Crave here at Rowan in the previous years. Our peers have furthered their pieces and continued to collaborate and grow their original works to present at the Fringe Festival this year, in addition to creating new ones like Peg!
“After receiving wonderful feedback about It’s Happening at Home at Rowan, I knew I needed to collect more stories and find new audiences to share with,” says Molly Jo Gifford, director of the original show. “There is an honesty in this show that comes from the many voices willing to contribute to it. The more people who we reach and who reach us, the more complete our show gets. We are a process.”
A “Meet the Fringe!” event will take place at Tohill Theatre in Bunce on Saturday, August 25 at 7 pm-10 pm to introduce and give a sneak peek of our students starring in the festival. This event is a pay-what-you-decide, as all proceeds will be split amongst the casts to help support the costs of self-producing their own shows.
Find a list of shows being performed this month here and even download the FringeArts App to customize and create your own show schedule to make sure you don’t miss where and when your favorite performances will be held. Don’t miss your chance to see some of the area’s newest and innovative art.
