Molly Purcell, a senior at Rowan dishes the top seven things she learned while on campus.
1.) Time management
From on campus activities, to hanging out with friends, to doing homework, every day is a busy day. Every single college student will tell you about how important managing your time is. College teaches you how to balance out everything on your to-do list so you can fit in your “me time” at the end of the day. It’s up to you to make each day count while getting everything done in time.
2.) How important family is
Not being with your family every single day will make you realize how much they really mean to you. If you’re anything like me, you’ll call your parents daily to tell them about what is going on in your life and constantly ask for advice.
3.) Who your best friends are
This one is a biggie. With constantly being around friends, you will find out which ones will be there for you very fast. You will meet people you didn’t even know you needed in your life. These are the people who will come to your dorm room at 2 a.m. because you’re sad but also eat with you three times a day at the dining hall.
4.) How to cook
There will come a day in college when you won’t want to go to the dining hall and end up learning how to use an oven. This WILL take a few tries and a call to mom might be happening. Start out with something simple. Possibly frozen pizza?
5.) The value of a dollar
You become to realize why your mom uses coupons and becomes excited when something is on sale. Being a college student means only spending money on things you need instead of things you want. Learning how to handle your money is a sad, yet very important life lesson that we all go through together.
6.) Step outside your comfort zone
Living somewhere new can be uncomfortable at first. Not everyone is outgoing and that is okay but don’t let your nerves stop you from doing something you’re dying to do. I can’t count all the things I did and people I met because I decided to put myself out there instead of hiding in my dorm room.
7.) About yourself
You will learn so much about yourself in these few years. In college, you choose what you want to do with your time, leading to find out who you really are. You will truly find yourself in the midst of the fascinating college chaos.
