Today, we speak with Justin Borelli, a senior advertising major from Malaga, NJ (Gloucester County) who lives off campus. Borelli will share his #PROFspective with us on what it’s like to be a Rowan University student majoring in advertising and what inspired him to choose that major.
Name: Justin Borelli
Year: Senior
Major: Advertising, within the College of Communication & Creative Arts
Minors: Public Relations
Hometown: Malaga, NJ (Gloucester County)
Transfer student? Yes
Where do you live? Off-campus
What inspired you to choose your major? I knew I wanted to do something with business, but I liked more of the creative side of business, so I chose advertising. I realized a lot of people in advertising actually want to do behind-the-scenes stuff like research, but I want to do the design stuff, and that’s what drew me into it.
What would you share with a future student interested in your major? All the classes relate to one another and you’re like ‘oh I’m actually learning.’
How does your field impact the world? Everyone needs ads for their business. I feel like there will always be a job for me to do.
What impact would you like to have on the world in your field? A goal of mine would be to see an ad that I did myself on a big billboard in the city.
Describe for us an experience you’ve shared with a Rowan professor in which you felt like you were working with a visionary in your field: Cristin Kastner Farney was my professor and she talks about her world experiences in class. She’ll go through slides and say, ‘This applies to the real world’ I feel like she’s really helpful and realistic in that aspect.
