Today we feature Kaela Moore, a sophomore double majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and minoring in sociology from Mount Laurel, NJ (Burlington County). She attended Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) for one year then Rowan College of Southern New Jersey (RCSJ) for one year through Rowan Choice before transferring to Rowan University.

What do you want to do with your major?

I always had the dream of creating a Super Bowl commercial one day. That is really what I want to. I will lean toward advertising and I picked up public relations because I am not only good at selling things but I am good at selling people. So I felt public relations was a good idea for me. Especially in these times you see all the cliche ads. You can separate the good ones that get the message across and the great ones that get the message across that are not corny and I love that. It gets me through the pandemic. As weird as it sounds, I like watching ads more than I like watching television and that is what I do when I am bored.

Why Rowan?

I love the atmosphere here at Rowan. It has always had this home-like atmosphere and that was something I was looking for that in a school. I also feel like the education here was great. I was ready to dive in. I had the option to transfer to another school but I just felt so comfortable and at home here so I stayed.

It is also just right, distance-wise. I am only 30 minutes away from home but its far enough where I can have my freedom and have my own world. But I am close enough if I miss my parents or just feel like going home then I can go home.

Have you had a professor that made you feel cared for?

With a lot of my professors I can say that. There was a point where I was struggling with my classes and I emailed all of my professors and they said I was going to be okay and they made sure I was. My academic advisor has also really been there for me.

What about friends?

I am part of the Love and Luxe e-board, a group of women who are here to empower women of color. I am the community service chair and being in that group it gives me a sense of unity and that I am not alone. I live with my friends but when they go off and do their own thing I can get lonely and having the club there for me means a lot.
