Today, we introduce you to first-year student Breanna Kiger, who hails from Cape May County, NJ and majors in Elementary Education. Breanna is not only the first of her family to attend college, she is a first-generation high school graduate as well. She shares her first impressions of the campus community in her first year here at Rowan University.
Could you share a few on-campus activities, clubs, sports or events that you’ve attended so far? What was your favorite, and why?
Personally, I’ve gone to a couple of RAH [Rowan After Hours] and SUP [Student University Programmers] events. The first week of school was so inviting and welcoming with the late night events. Even the Walmart trip was amazing, it really helped us first years realize that we were…well…first years! We were out, and on our own! (Even if it was just a Walmart).
A lot of the first week/month events were great! The welcoming week with the parade and picnic were fantastic. It was nice to see where our money goes in making a fun, happy environment where I can meet new people with the transition into college!
What are some ways you’ve made friends this year?
All the events I’ve met new people, classes were also a big factor too!
What is one thing about Rowan itself that you liked that encouraged you to enroll?
It’s warm to first-gen students. I’m a first-generation HIGH SCHOOL graduate. And now, a first-gen college student. Rowan prides themselves about that, and it’s nice to see them embracing those students and giving them a platform with good resources and a warm environment.
Did you attend Accepted Students Day last spring?
Yes.
How did attending the day benefit you or help your transition to Rowan?
I got to see the campus, really help settle in that, yeah, I wanted to go here. Meeting the professors and staff really made me feel welcomed!
Any advice for high school seniors about choosing a school?
GO WITH YOUR GUT!! Who cares what the reputation is? You like the school? You felt welcome? Go for it!
Like what you see?
