20 Minute Radius: Philly Dinner & A Show

Suzanne Roberts Theatre outside Philly

Just a hop, skip and a jump away lives Philadelphia; home of countless fun things for Rowan students to do! This past weekend, my friends and I took the quick trip to Philly see the musical The Bridges of Madison County through the Philadelphia Theatre Company at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. For a cheap $10 student ticket price, we received a top-notch, professional performance that made us laugh and cry at the same time. “The Bridges of Madison County captures the lyrical expanse of America’s heartland along with the yearning entangled in the eternal question ‘What if…?’ This sweeping romance about the roads we travel, the doors we open and the bridges we dare to cross will leave audiences breathless.”

The show ran through March 3, with performances Tuesdays-Sunday. Whether you’re an avid theater-goer or not, anyone would appreciate this beautiful show packed with emotional songs, heart-throbbing plot twists and loveable characters.

After the performance, we wanted to explore the the Philly Theatre District along Broad Street. There’s so many things for students to check out like the cool, retro restaurants or entertainment venues like the Kimmel Center. We decided to pop in a diner just a few steps down from the Suzanne Roberts Theatre to enjoy some delicious, late-night snacks.

Insomnia cookies inside a box in Philly

Before heading back to Rowan campus, you’ve got to stop at an Insomnia Cookies in Philly: home of the 24-hour cookies always ready to be indulged. I drove, being a senior commuter with my car. The friends I went with were freshmen with no cars on campus – if I hadn’t had driven us all, they could’ve rode the Philly Friday Night Shuttle into the city at 6:30, something RAH (Rowan After Hours) provides for students on campus! There’s always a way for students to check out all the fun things to do in Philadelphia.
