Today we speak to junior Mikayla Priscopo, an Early Childhood Education major from Clayton, NJ (Gloucester County). Mikayla talks about her time here at Rowan and how Rowan has prepared her for her field.

How would you tell a fellow student interested in your major that they’re choosing a worthwhile field?

I would tell a fellow student interested in Education that they’re choosing a worthwhile field because of how much experience you can get before going into your field. My resume looked great as a junior and continues to grow.

Could you share with us one moment during your time at Rowan that made you feel inspired or confident that you’re in the right field for you?

One moment during my time at Rowan that made me confident Education was the right major for me was mostly during my fields and clinical experiences. I’ve had many professors at Rowan that made sure our experiences were memorable.

What has been one aspect of Rowan that you’ve enjoyed so far, OR one happy thing about Rowan that surprised you?

One thing about Rowan that surprised me or made me happy was when my professors took our class on a field trip. It was an educational experience outside of Rowan that was also fun for me and my classmates.

Why continue with your education this year instead of taking a gap year ?

I decided to continue my education this year rather than taking a gap year because I feel as though Rowan is accommodating to enough to understand what everyone is going through. There are many options you have as a student to make you feel safe during this pandemic, and the school ensures that those options are available to everybody.

What are your professional goals? And how is Rowan helping to support you in those goals?

I want to become an early childhood educator when I graduate, and Rowan is preparing me for that by pushing and guiding my experiences in that field for practice. I used to be scared thinking about my first day working as a professional, but numerous practices have made me confident for my career.
