Rowan University Campus Leader Prefers Online Classes
Rowan University senior Zackary Brown, a double major in both philosophy and public relations, will graduate this spring. This year Zackary stepped into the most impactful, and important, student leadership role on campus: that of student body president (SGA).
Not only has he taken on significant leadership responsibilities, but he also works as a behavioral health technician, while also heavily involved in community work in Camden. For Zackary, the flexibility provided by Rowan’s online courses play an important role in managing his busy schedule and staying on top of his commitments.

How Does Online Learning at Rowan University Support Students Balancing Multiple Commitments?
As SGA President, Zackary guides various student initiatives, including mentoring programs and leadership development. “I think one core factor of asynchronous learning is that it’s on your own,” Zackary explained. “As a leader, you do a lot on your own, and you have to manage your own time and abilities. I learned to adhere to deadlines not just from my online classes, but also from life.” He started taking online classes sophomore year, finding that the freedom to set his own pace helps him meet his many responsibilities. “Online learning made me more disciplined, especially in managing my time effectively,” he shared. “It’s given me the perseverance to handle multiple roles while still succeeding in my studies.”

Online Classes Empower Students to Take Initiative in Their Education
Zackary’s academic success, as well as his personal growth, showcase the impact of online learning. Online classes allow students to work at their own pace, encouraging independence and the ability to explore subjects deeply. “I believe asynchronous learning helps people to take the initiative to explore their studies,” Zackary said. “For instance, when I took a class on dinosaurs, I ended up researching how some chickens originated from dinosaurs; things you wouldn’t expect to learn in a traditional classroom.” For students who need flexibility in their schedules, online courses at Rowan provide an opportunity to develop key transferable skills, like time management, self-discipline, and the ability to think critically and independently.

In What Ways Does Online Learning Offer Flexibility for Busy College Students?
Rowan University’s online classes accommodate students like Zackary, who need a balance between academics, leadership roles, and work commitments. “You learn perseverance in online courses because you’re the one responsible for your education,” Zackary explained. “It’s also convenient. I can attend my office hours remotely and take classes from anywhere, which means I don’t have to sacrifice my other responsibilities.”
Rowan offers a wide range of online courses that allow students to engage in meaningful learning experiences, all while having the flexibility to manage their personal and professional lives. In addition, Rowan University Online is designed for students who live anywhere to take 100% online classes to graduate with their bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
Why Should Students Take Online Classes at Rowan?
Rowan University’s online learning options create a perfect fit for students who need flexibility, without compromising the quality of their education. As Zackary put it, “Online learning lets you explore your own studies and discover new areas of interest. You never know what might become important for your future.” For students looking to balance their academic journey with other responsibilities, Rowan’s online classes provide the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed, all on your own terms.
Zackary will graduate this spring, likely with cum laude honors.
