What inspired you to choose your major? I have always been interested in the sciences and medicine. I aspire to continue to veterinary school and earn my doctorate.
What inspired you to get involved in campus? As a transfer student I feel like I missed my freshman year opportunity to make close friends. By immersing myself into campus life I get to experience those opportunities and make some awesome friends with similar interests.
What would you share with a future student interested in your major? Take advantage of the tutoring services and go to your professors office hours once a week to solidify any concepts in class you don’t understand. Make a groupme with your class to set up study sessions. Read the material before it is covered in class so that the topic is understandable.
How does your field impact the world? What impact would you like to have on the world in your field? Pets have become such a huge part of the average person’s life. It’s important to have compassionate knowledgable doctors to care for our furry friends. Four years ago I adopted a pit bull who was very sick. She unnecessarily suffered for 6 weeks with a spinal infection and became paralyzed in her back legs. Finally after many vet visits she was prescribed antibiotics and was better within a week. That experience was life changing for me. My dog is what keeps me grounded, she makes me smile, she makes me responsible and she reminds me how simple love is and should be. I couldn’t imagine my life without her. I think pets make their owners a better person because they provide them with unconditional love.
Describe for us an experience you’ve shared with a Rowan professor in which you felt like you were working with a visionary in your field. My first biology professor at Rowan was Dr. Tahamont. She taught the Bio 3 transfer class. On syllabus day I was so intimidated by her I tried transferring out only to find she was the only professor teaching the required course. Dr. Tahamont shaped me into an amazing student. Her strict rules and no nonsense attitude helped me understand what was expected of me as a college student. She taught me how to push myself to understanding difficult topics, how to write an amazing lab report and how to make judgements on whether research was credible. She made a lasting impression on me and I am beyond grateful to have had her as a professor.
