Today we feature Alisa Patel, a junior Mathematics major with a Statistics of Operations Research and Data Analysis minor. Alisa is a first-generation college student from Cedar Grove, NJ (Essex County). Alisa is a tutor through tutoring services, a resident assistant (RA) through Residential Learning & University Housing and a mentor with Dr. Harley E. Flack Student Mentoring Program. Alisa shares with us what it is like to be a Rowan University student.
What inspired you to choose your major?
I was good at Mathematics since I was little as well as enjoyed doing it.
How are you involved on campus?
I am a math tutor at tutoring services at Rowan University which helps me refresh all the content from my previous courses, preparing me for my future career as a data scientist.
Could you share with us one moment that made you feel inspired or confident that you’re in the right field for you?
I feel that I am following the right major for myself whenever I find myself losing track of time when doing math problems.
Describe for us an experience you’ve shared with a Rowan professor in which you felt like you were working with a visionary in your field.
I have met with the Data Analysis advisor, Anthony Breitzman, who helps me feel that my goal is reachable by guiding me on what classes and what outside of classes learnings I should be focused on.
