Meet #Rowan2025: Writing Arts Major, Author Vaniece Washington

Today we feature incoming first year and first-generation college student Vaniece Washington from Woodlynne, NJ (Camden County). Vaniece will be studying Writing Arts and commuting from home.

Welcome to Rowan! Could you share with us one thing you are looking forward in college?

Meeting people with my same interests.

What is one hobby, activity, sport or club you were a part of in high school that you’d like to continue in college?

African American history club, a choir group and journalism.

Is there anything you’re hoping to discover about yourself in college?

Improving my social skills, becoming more outgoing and less shy and maybe even conquer a fear. I would like to join the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

What majors are you considering and why?

Writing Arts because I love writing. I am already a penned author, and I plan to continue my journey as an author throughout college and throughout my life.

Did you tour Rowan or attend any virtual events?

I went to a virtual event earlier in the school year, and we discussed what Rowan was about and other students got to discuss what majors we were looking forward to if we got into Rowan.

Do you have advice for other high school seniors who haven’t committed to a school yet?

Just do what makes you happy.

What is one thing about Rowan itself that you liked?

Like what you see?
