Hispanic Heritage Month #PROFspective: History and International Studies Double Major Kyle I.

Today, as part of our Hispanic Heritage Month #PROFspective series, we feature Senior Kyle I. (he/him) from Woodlynne, NJ (Camden County). Kyle is double majoring in History and International Studies, having transferred to Rowan University from Camden County College. He discusses his experience at Rowan, professional aspirations, and gives advice to future students.

What is your student experience here at Rowan? Do you feel included? Supported? How so? Could you highlight an example or two?

I don’t seek out inclusion, usually stick to myself. Have a social group outside of university (older transfer student).

Kyle poses for a picture, wearing a pin.

How would you describe inclusion?

I would describe it as being treated equally as other peers regardless of your race/ethnicity/etc.

What advice would you give to a Hispanic/Latinx high school student considering your major here at Rowan?

If they were studying history with an interest in Latin American history like myself, the courses I have had so far do an ok job covering the basics. If you want to go more in depth in your research there are resources for you to draw from in the library and databases that you have access to as a student to access that more in depth knowledge, though it has to be done out of your own interest/desire.

What are your professional goals?

My goals are to work in education and politics, both locally and with the possibility to consider focusing on these in Texas as well.

If you are open to it, could you share a little about your Hispanic or Latinx heritage?

Half Mexican, raised by my Mexican mother mainly.

Like what you see?
